Breed your own Friesian Horse!

"House of the Friesians" offers a unique program: Breed your own Friesian horse! We offer you the opportunity to breed your own foal with the stallion and mare of your own choice. "House of the Friesians" will assume full responsibility for the care, from the time you made your selection of stallion and mare, to the time the foal reaches the age of five months old and is delivered to your home.

The program "Breed your own Friesian Horse" works as follows:

  1. In consultation with "House of the Friesians" you select one of the broodmares that are owned by, and will remain property of "House of the Friesians" .
  2. Also in consultation with "House of the Friesians", a selection of a FPS approved stallion will be made. To which the selected mare, by way of artificial insemination, will be bred.
  3. "House of the Friesians" looks after the artificial insemination of the selected mare.
  4. "House of the Friesians" will provide proper care for the mare and give her optimal guidance with the birthing process.
  5. After the birth, the foal will remain at "House of the Friesians" for five months. During this period mother and foal will receive expert care and also take part in the training program of "House of the Friesians". At the end of this period the foal will be delivered to you, complete with medical passport, selection report and with registration papers from the FPS and the FHANA.

The cost per foal is US$ 11,000 and this price includes:

  1. Costs of the breeding and the frozen semen of the selected stallion,
  2. Care and training during the time the foal stays at "House of the Friesians",
  3. Cost involved in the registration of the foal with the FPS / FHANA (of course you can give the foal a name of your choice)
  4. Veterinary costs, including vaccinations and de-worming,
  5. Farrier costs,
  6. Status report made up by "House of the Friesians",
  7. Medical report supplied by veterinarian,
  8. Costs of the first selection test of the FPS,
  9. Blanket complete with name of the foal, halter and lead-line,
  10. Insurance up to the moment the foal leaves "House of the Friesians".

Not included are the cost of the insurance after the foal leaves "House of the Friesians", and the cost of the transportation from "House of the Friesians" to your home, which is US$ 1.45 per kilometer. You are of course welcome to provide your own transportation! In the event that the foal is to be delivered outside of Canada, an additional border crossing fee must be charged ( to the US $ 150.00)

If you are not jet a member of the FHANA, an additional membership fee must be collected (a membership is required for the registration of the foal in your name).

From the moment you decide to take part in this program, till the moment the foal is delivered to your home, you are always welcome at "House of the Friesians". If you would like to stay the night? Any time is good! Cost per night in one of our comfortable apartments, located right at "House of the Friesians", US$50.00. We invite you to join us for your meals (free of charge).

Method of payment: 50% in advance and 50% when the foal leaves "House of the Friesians". In the event that the selected mare stays barren, the pregnancy does not result in a living foal or in the case the foal is lost during the five month stay of the foal at "House of the Friesians", you can make your choice of the following two options: repeat the "Breed your own Friesian Horse" program free of charge or receive a 80% reimbursement on the already paid amount.
